About Us

Our Catholic Diocese of Pueblo Foundation was established in 1995 by Bishop Arthur N. Tafoya with funds from the Seminarian Burse Endowment.  Today, this is the largest Endowment, supplementing the cost of educating and training seminarians, continuing each year using the interest generated while keeping the principal intact to help our diocese educate our future priests.

The success of the Seminarian Endowment Fund and the rewards of its lasting and ongoing contribution to our faith led the Foundation Board to seek to expand its good works to touch more lives in our Diocese.  The current areas of support, chosen as a starting point for our young Foundation, serve our Diocese in many ways.  They are:

  • General Fund
  • Humanitarian Concerns
  • Parish and Mission Assistance
  • Tuition and Education Assistance to Diocesan Catholic Schools

Our Catholic Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by our Bishop.  The Board consists of clergy, laymen and women from throughout the diocese.  It is a working Board whose members generously give of their time, talent and treasure for the benefit of our Catholic Foundation.

Description of Program Support

General Fund - This fund is designed to be agile and it gives our Catholic Foundation the ability to respond to emergency situations and to supplement any of the areas listed below.  The General Fund allows our Catholic Foundation the wherewithal to be approachable and proactive in meeting emerging needs throughout the diocese.

Humanitarian Concerns - Ever mindful of our obligation as Catholics to help the least among us, the broad based fund was established.  It is secular in nature and designed to provide funding where it is most needed.  Past support has been given to projects such as a rural food banks and assisting migrant workers with everyday living needs.

Parish and Mission Assistance - The Diocese of Pueblo is economically and geographically diverse.  Within it are parishes and missions with needs that exceed their limited financial ability.  Parishioners throughout the diocese are generous in their giving, however, in numerous communities, specific needs extend beyond the financial abilities.  Monies from our Catholic Foundation help assure these parishes will be able to provide for their parishioners and continue to be beacons of hope, faith and charity where the need is the greatest.

Tuition and Education Assistance to Diocesan Catholic Schools Fund - Presently, there are three diocesan Catholic grade schools.

  • Saint Therese Catholic School, Pueblo
  • Saint Columba Catholic School, Durango
  • Holy Family Catholic School, Grand Junction

Catholic education is the primary ministry through which our Catholic faith is propagated.  Providing academic excellence and teaching moral values within a disciplined environment is a Catholic education tradition.  Offering Catholic education to any and every child who seeks it is a priority of our Catholic Foundation.

Gala Dinners

Promote Foundation

Wendi Dammann, Chuck DeManche, Ann Jillian, Mary Shaw and Tom Anderson of Saint Mary-Corwin.
The Board of Directors holds two annual Gala Dinners designed to raise funds and awareness for the work of the foundation.  In early fall each year Grand Junction hosts a wonderful dinner for residents of the Western Slope  area of the Diocese.  This past September 2005, beloved actor Mike Farrell of M*A*S*H fame was the celebrity speaker.  He shared with the audience much of his work in the area of human rights and how his faith has helped to shape his activism in many different areas of the world.

In June of 2006, Pueblo hosted their foundation dinner for residents of the Front Range.  Well known actress, singer and entertainer, Ann Jillian was the guest speaker.  She captivated the audience with her personal journey of faith, family, breast cancer survival and show business acumen.

Both speakers played to packed houses. Silent auctions were also part of each evening with fantastic offerings that helped to net over %50,000 for foundation programs.  Sponsorship plays a a key role in the success of these events.  Thank you to all of our corporate sponsors, table sponsors and silent auction donors who do so much to make these dinners one of the most sought after tickets in town.
